Lewes Constituency Labour Party are delighted to announce that Danny Sweeney has been selected to stand for Lewes as the parliamentary candidate for the general election on Thursday 4th July 2024.
A Bit About Danny
I’m a former Local Government Officer and Labour Party Organiser with a science background, who now works for UNISON. I am passionate about the environment, human rights, the NHS & social care, housing, jobs and the cost of living.
Danny’s Campaign
I am delighted to be given the chance to set out Labour’s positive vision for the country to voters in Newhaven, Seaford, Polegate, Lewes and the villages that make up our constituency.” As Chair of the Lewes Area Labour Party branch, I understand the challenges facing local people, so it is a privilege to represent the Labour Party in the area in which I live, where my partner is from, and the place that I call home. I know how much people are suffering right now with the cost of living because I have personal experience of what it is like to grow up in poverty, being afraid to leave the house, because of crime. In my day job as a Trade Union Officer, supporting key workers such as NHS staff, I see how our public services are at breaking point. After 14 years of Conservative and Lib Dems in Government, the economy is faltering and nothing works. I believe most people want to feel safe and secure in their home and in their neighbourhood, in good quality housing, with public services that work, with opportunities for them and their family, not having to worry how they will pay the bills. That is why my top priorities will be the cost of living, giving young people the opportunities they deserve, laying the foundations for a stronger, greener economy, and fixing the NHS.”
